International Fertilizer Development hires new CEO

The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), based in Muscle Shoals, Ala., has hired Scott Angle as its president and CEO.
Angle has been dean of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences for 10 years. Earlier, he held several positions at the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Angle received a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and a master’s degree in soil microbiology at the University of Maryland. He received his doctorate in soil microbiology and biochemistry at the University of Missouri.
“Soil fascinates me,” Angle said in a news release. “As a soil scientist, I focus on phytoremediation and the use of recycled waste products to improve soil fertility. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with farmers and researchers on soils around the world, namely in Egypt and West Africa.”
Angle succeeds Amit Roy, who came to IFDC as a chemical engineer in 1978 and has served as president since 1992.
In an email, Roy said, “Today IFDC’s achievements are rooted in a central goal: helping individuals thrive. Ultimately, our work is not about fertilizer or research or economics — it’s about people. Their prosperity fuels our efforts.
“Development and technology transfer require understanding those you are helping and engaging them from the beginning. They know what they need to succeed – but they often do not have the resources to accomplish it.”
