National Farmers Union members will head to Capitol Hill Thursday to lobby primarily on five issues, NFU Vice President Chandler Goule said today at a briefing at the Agriculture Department.

Goule said the members would emphasize support for country-of-origin labeling, the Renewable Fuel Standard and repeal of the embargo on trade with Cuba, while also talking about their opposition to the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement and importation of beef from certain parts of South America.

He urged NFU delegates from around the country to tell members of Congress, “I am a beef rancher and I want consumers to know where their beef comes from.”

On the RFS, Goule said the members would tell Congress that fuels sold under the RFS reduce greenhouse gases.

Goule said the lobbying farmers will note that they oppose TPP because it does not cover currency manipulation and that, if the member of Congress still signals support for TPP, they will ask if the member supports an independent bill on currency manipulation.
