The International Dairy Foods Association, which represents dairy processors, on Monday praised Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and ranking member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., for writing a letter to Canadian Ambassador to the United States Gary Doer urging Canada to engage and commit to “significant and commercially meaningful market access for all remaining agricultural products,” including dairy in the Trans-Pacific Partnership talks.
Hatch and Wyden said their support for the final TPP agreement depends on increased U.S. access to the Canadian dairy market.
“We thank the senators for their support on gaining the best deals for the U.S. dairy industry in this agreement,” said IDFA President and CEO Connie Tipton. “Now is the time for Canada to come to the table with a commercially meaningful offer on dairy.”
