Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan late Tuesday sent a letter to House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-N.Y., and ranking member Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., objecting to a number of provisions in the fiscal year 2016 Agriculture appropriations bill that the committee is scheduled to consider today.
In the letter, Donovan objects in general to funding levels that continue sequestration. His objections to specific cuts include funding levels for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the lack of funding for electronic benefit transfer pilots for summer food programs, changes to nutrition programs including the healthier school meal rules, limitations on money for renewable fuels programs and a provision giving farmers more time for conservation compliance.
Donovan also notes that lack of funding for a laboratory in Athens, Ga. will make it more difficult to fight highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to consider the fiscal year 2016 Agriculture Appropriations bill today at 10:15 a.m. in Room 2350 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The committee has also released the committee print of the bill.
