House Ag Approps markup postponed

The House Appropriations Committee has postponed a markup scheduled for Thursday on the fiscal year 2016 Agriculture appropriations bill.

The postponement means that the full committee will not take up the bill until after the July 4 break.

An aide to House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., said that the markup was postponed because members wish to travel to Charleston, S.C., for funeral services for victims of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church shooting.

The aide noted that the situation is compressing the scheduled debate and votes and that rules prohibit the scheduling of a full committee markup when an appropriations bill is being considered on the floor.

The House will convene at 9 a.m. Thursday, and last votes for the week are expected mid-afternoon.

Votes had been expected in the House on Friday, but will no longer be held, the Press Gallery said.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, will lead a delegation Friday to the services for the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, the state senator who was one of nine people killed in the racially motivated shooting last week.

President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are scheduled to attend the services.
