Obama to visit African Union, key USAID partner

As part of a trip to Ethiopia and Kenya in late July, President Barack Obama will visit the Addis Ababa headquarters of the African Union, which has been a key partner with the U.S. Agency for International Development in its Feed the Future program, the White House announced Friday.
Agricultural development has long been neglected in Africa, but in 2003 the Africa Union, a continental organization of the African countries, established the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program through which 20 countries have developed collaborative investment plans.
Feed the Future has supported CAADP and encouraged participation in CAADP’s individual country development strategies as part of its aid to African countries.
“This will be the first visit of a sitting U.S. president to Ethiopia and to the African Union headquarters, underscoring our efforts to work with the countries and citizens of sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve security,” the White House said.
