BIO to change its name

The Biotechnology Industry Organization is changing its name to the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, the group announced today at its international convention in Philadelphia.

BIO Board Chair Ron Cohen, who is CEO of Acorda Therapeutics, said in a news release that BIO’s board approved the change, saying the new name “better expresses the essence of what our member companies represent.”

The new name will be launched in early 2016.

“This is a great move that will help clarify for policymakers and the public the heart of our industry — scientific innovation that will help to heal, feed and fuel the world,” said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. “Each day, our members use cutting-edge science and technology to deliver game-changing products, therapies and cures to improve the human condition.”
