House to act on TPA again

The House Rules Committee approved this afternoon a new rule to bring up trade promotion authority legislation to the full House, Washington Trade Daily reported.

The TPA part of another bill that passed the House last Friday will be attached to Senate-passed legislation dealing with retired firefighters pension plans, WTD said.

The rule is expected to come to the House floor tomorrow followed by debate on the legislation and then head to the Senate.

No amendments will be allowed and there will be no motion to recommit allowed.

The bill does not affect extension of trade adjustment assistance legislation, WTD said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a joint statement, “We are committed to ensuring both TPA and TAA get votes in the House and Senate and are sent to the president for signature. And it is our intent to have a conference on the customs bill and complete that in a timely manner so that the president can sign it into law.”

The bill does not affect extension of Trade Adjustment Assistance legislation, WTD said.
