TAA revote uncertain

On Friday President Barack Obama and Republican House leaders were confident about a revote this week on the trade adjustment assistance bill, but the prospects for a revote appear very uncertain today.

The House schedule released by the House Daily Gallery lists a range of bills for consideration, but on TAA says only there may be “possible consideration of legislation related to trade.”

Votes in the House today are postponed until 6:30 p.m. Votes are to be completed by 3 p.m. Thursday and no votes are expected on Friday.

National Journal noted that both Congress and the White House are moving on to other matters. (See link.)

The House is scheduled to move on to an intelligence bill while President Barack Obama is scheduled to travel at the end of the week to speak to California to speak to the U.S. Conference of Mayors, a group that campaigned for his trade legislation even though many big city House Democrats did not vote for it.

When announcing her opposition to the trade legislation, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., noted that Congress has not passed the highway bill. The House Ways and Means Committee has a hearing scheduled on the long-term financing of the highway trust fund on Wednesday and the Senate Finance Committee has a similar hearing scheduled Thursday.
