Obama to appoint food journalist to fellowship commission

President Barack Obama today announced his intent to appoint Amanda Hesser to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.
Hesser is CEO of Food52, a website she co-founded in 2009. She played herself in the 2009 film “Julie & Julia,” and created the Twitter app Plodt in 2008.
From 1997 to 2008, she was a reporter and food editor at The New York Times.
Hesser is also the author of “Cooking for Mr. Latte: A Food Lover’s Courtship with Recipes” and “The Cook and the Gardener,” and is the co-author of two Food52 cookbooks.
Her most recent book, “The Essential New York Times Cookbook,” was a New York Times bestseller.
Hesser was named one of the 50 most influential women in food by Gourmet in 2011. Food52 was named publication of the year by the James Beard Foundation in 2012 and best culinary website by the International Association of Culinary Professionals for the past three years.
Hesser received a bachelor of science degree from Bentley University.
