WICHITA — A rib dinner with two sides costs only $11.99 at the Bite Me BBQ here, where the National Farmers Union just ended its 2015 convention.

A fine restaurant downtown is the Siena Tuscan Steakhouse in the Amassador Hotel, where the premium steaks from Creekstone Farms are marked “KC Prime Strip” — a description which prompted a foreign visitor to ask “What's KC?”

Other recommended downtown restaurants are Cafe Bel Ami, a rare French Mediterranean restaurant on the Plains, and the AVI Seabar and Chophouse in the Drury Plaza Hotel.
