White House announces healthy plans for Easter Egg Roll, opens ticket lottery

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama announced Monday that the theme of this year’s Easter Egg Roll will be #GimmeFive, part of the first lady’s campaign to encourage people to do five things for healthier eating.
The lottery for tickets opened at noon Monday and will close at noon Thursday EST.
The event will be held Monday, April 6, and will open the White House South Lawn for children ages 13 years and younger and their families.
The website for entering the lottery is www.recreation.gov. Tickets are free of charge and cannot be sold.
In a video Monday, the first lady said that as part of the fifth anniversary of her Let’s Move! initiative against childhood obesity, she is challenging Americans across the country to #GimmeFive things they are doing to eat better, be more active, and lead a healthier life. Individuals and families can get involved by sharing on social media five things they’re doing to be healthy and passing on the challenge to others with the hashtag #GimmeFive. (See link below.)
In support of Let’s Move!, the event will feature sports and fitness zones, cooking demonstrations, and Easter classics such as the egg roll and egg hunt, in addition to live music and storytelling, the White House said.
The White House is also sponsoring an Easter Egg Roll Design Contest. Elementary and middle school students may submit original artwork related to #GimmeFive, and the first lady will select two winning designs, which will be used as part of the White House 2015 Easter Egg Roll program and souvenir poster.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 6, at noon EST. Designs should be uploaded to www.whitehouse.gov/eastereggroll/2015designcontest. Submissions may be made public during the selection process.
The White House also announced that the White House Easter Egg Roll features five souvenir eggs, available for sale through the National Park Service.
Four of the eggs are painted in festive colors — sea-breeze blue, sunburst orange, petunia purple, and spring green. These eggs feature the stamped signatures of the president and first lady on the back.
The fifth egg, the “Bo and Sunny” egg, is a natural American Birchwood egg that is included only in the 2015 five-count Collector’s Egg Set. This egg has the stamped “signatures” and “paw prints” of Bo and Sunny, the first family’s dogs, on the back.
The keepsake eggs may be ordered at easter.nationalparks.org.
