Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan. and House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway, R-Texas, met Wednesday to discuss the agriculture agenda, and issued statements praising each other.

Conaway said the experience of Roberts, who is the first former chairman of the House Agriculture Committee to become chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committtee, “will provide valuable perspective going forward.”

Roberts said Conaway’s “military service and his business experience make him well suited to lead the House Agriculture Committee, which is no easy task.”

“I know he is committed to being a champion for farmers, ranchers, small businesses and rural communities,” Roberts said. “Together we will fight burdensome regulations, conduct strong oversight and protect the taxpayer and consumer.”
