WTD: Japan offers to slash beef tariff

Japan has proposed in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations reducing its beef tariff from 38.5 percent to 9 percent over 15 years, Washington Trade Daily reported Thursday, citing a report by the Kyodo news service.
Tokyo also said it wants a safeguard measure to raise its tariffs back to 20 percent if U.S. beef imports surge, WTD said.
