World Trade Organization Director General Roberto Azevêdo wants to extend consultations on drawing-up a post-Bali work program until next July, Washington Trade Daily reported late today.
Azevêdo also said he will circulate on Monday the understanding reached between the United States and India on the food security stockholding plan.
In closed-door meetings with envoys, Azevêdo pointed out that there is limited time to finalize the post-Bali work program — even though a Bali-set deadline of early December will be missed, WTD said.
The director general discussed the U.S-India agreement to end their dispute over the trade facilitation agreement, but did not disclose all the details and representatives of other countries requested more details, WTD said.
The WTO General Council is expected on November 26 to adopt both the Trade Facilitation Agreement protocol of accession and the revised food stockholding initiative, WTD noted.
