November 10, 2014 | 05:34 PM
The Agriculture Department today published a Federal Register notice seeking public comment on its proposed second beef checkoff program.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has proposed the new checkoff for research, education and promotion.
Farm groups have been unable to reach agreement on changes to the current checkoff so that Congress could consider making the changes and doubling the $1 fee that is paid when beef animals are sold.
