Balletopedia, which bills itself as an “interactive almanac of American politics” is tracking the elections for state agriculture commissioner.

Twelve agriculture commissioners are elected, and the rest are appointed. But if a governor who appoints an agriculture commissioner retires or is defeated, the new governor is likely to appoint a new commissioner.

Seven states are electing agriculture commissioners today:

• Florida
• Georgia
• Iowa
• North Dakota
• South Carolina
• Texas
