Oxfam disappointed in cotton case outcome

Oxfam America, the international charity that earlier expressed enthusiasm for Brazil’s decision to bring the cotton case against the United States, is disappointed in the final outcome, Gawain Kripke, Oxfam America director of policy and research, wrote in a blog post this week.
Kripke said he had hoped for a more dramatic change to U.S. farm policy than a settlement.
Three members of Congress who have regularly called for dramatic changes to farm subsidies — Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Reps. Ron Kind, D-Wis., and Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn. — also expressed outrage at the settlement and said radical reform of the U.S. farm program is still needed.
