African leaders and President Barack Obama are scheduled to discuss food security and post-2015 millennium development goals among other topics when during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington August 4 to 7.
A session entitled “Resilience and Food Security in a Changing Climate” will be held August 4 at the National Academy of Sciences. A session on post-2015 millennium development goals will be held August 7, also at the academy.
“Discussions will center on how to encourage progress in key areas that Africans define as critical for the future of the continent: expanding trade and investment ties, engaging young African leaders, promoting inclusive sustainable development, expanding cooperation on peace and security, and gaining a better future for Africa’s next generation,” the White House said in a website post.
The chair of the African Union and all African heads of state or government in good standing with the United States and the African Union have been invited to attend the summit. Obama’s Cabinet, U.S. and African business executives, members of Congress and civil society leaders have also been invited, the White House said.
