The Senate today confirmed by voice vote Darci Vetter as the chief U.S. agricultural negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

Vetter has been an Agriculture deputy undersecretary for farm and foreign agricultural service since 2010.

“Darci is the right person at the right time to stand up for American farmers, ranchers and workers in tough trade negotiations underway with Asia and Europe," Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said in a news release.

“Oregon wheat growers, dairy farmers, and organics producers need someone at the negotiating table who understands that any trade deal must result in ambitious, comprehensive market opening for American agriculture,” said Wyden

“I am confident that Darci — the daughter of an organic farmer from Nebraska with deep experience on agriculture trade issues — will fight hard for their interests and those of all American agriculture producers.”

“American farmers and ranchers are central to our effort to support jobs across the United States by selling more ‘made-in-America goods and services to the world,” said Trade Representative Michael Froman. “Darci’s expertise and experience will make her a formidable advocate for our agricultural community. I look forward to welcoming her back to USTR.”

Vetter previously worked for the Senate Finance Committee, USTR and the State Department.

She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Drake University and a master of public administration degree and certificate in science, technology, and environmental policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
