House to take up Ag approps next week

The House of Representatives will take up the fiscal year 2015 Agriculture appropriations bill on the floor next week, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., announced late Friday.
From the schedule it looks unclear whether the House will finish the bill next week, but it is possible that the debate or votes on the bill could take place on Thursday. That would mean that the House could be considering a controversial waiver to healthier school meals rules at the same time that the Senate Agriculture Committee holds a hearing on the reauthorization of the child nutrition programs including school lunch that is scheduled for 2015.
Cantor announced that between Tuesday and Thursday the House will consider several bills including the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agency appropriations bill. But he listed Ag approps after the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development and Related Agencies bill. He also listed a number of other bills that he expects to bring up.
Cantor also said that votes for the week are expected no later than 3 p.m. on Thursday and that no votes are expected on Friday.
The Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on child nutrition programs begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
