Chicago Council recommends actions on climate change

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs today released a report urging the U.S. government to take several steps to improve the prospects for global food security in the era of climate change.
The report, released at the council’s annual food security symposium in Washington, was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Its recommendations were developed by the project’s co-chairs, former Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman and Doug Bereuter, a former Republican House member from Nebraska and former president and CEO of the San Francisco-headquartered Asia Foundation.
The 103-page report recommends:
1. Make global food security one of the highest priorities of U.S. economic and foreign development policy
2. Bolster research on climate change impacts and solutions, increase funding for data collection, and partner widely
3. Include climate change adaptation in trade negotiations
4. Advance climate change adaptation and mitigation through partnerships
