House Ag Approps approves 2015 bill

The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee approved the fiscal year 2015 Agriculture appropriations bill today.
The vote was by voice, with only one member, Rep. Rosa De Lauro, D-Conn., voting against the bill.
Several Democratic members objected to the bill’s provisions to establish a program to grant some schools waivers from the school lunch and breakfast rules implemented under the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act and to force USDA to allow potatoes to be purchased under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children known as WIC.
No amendments were offered, but DeLauro said she expects to offer a number of them at the full committee markup, which is expected to be held May 29.
Details of the debate will follow.
