Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Mark Wetjen said today that the agency needs more personnel and better information technology to oversee the futures marketplace.
In testimony before the Senate Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, Wetjen pointed out that trading volume has grown and Congress has given the agency additional responsibilities under the Dodd-Frank financial services reform bill, but that appropriations have not kept up with that growth.
“The agency’s ability to appropriately oversee the marketplace hinges on securing additional resources,” Wetjen said.
