CAST publishes biotech labeling paper

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology today published a paper on the labeling of genetically engineered foods.
The report, which is industry supported, concluded that labeling would be expensive and is unnecessary from a scientific perspective.
The scientists who wrote the report also concluded that legislators and consumers, especially in states considering labeling initiatives, should be provided with “independent objective information on the scientific issues and the possible legal ramifications and economic consequences of mandatory GE food labels,” but did not say who or what entities should provide it.
