U.N. panel reports impact of climate change on food systems

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which met in Yokahama, Japan, last week, has issued a report finding sweeping impacts that place the world’s food supply at risk unless greenhouse gas emissions are controlled.
The IPCC was set up in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Environment Program to provide policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and future risks, and options for adaptation and mitigation.
The group also underlies negotiations at the U.N. Climate Conference — the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The report includes chapters on food systems and rural areas.
