First lady celebrates ‘Let’s Move’ anniversary

First Lady Michelle Obama will spend a week celebrating the anniversary of “Let’s Move!,” her campaign against childhood obesity.

The first lady launched “Let's Move!” on Feb. 9, 2010.

Today Obama has traveled to New York City to visit the “Taking Back the Streets” exhibit at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City and to tape The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which will be broadcast this evening on NBC.

The exhibit, developed by WAT-AAH, is a celebration of street art in honor of Drink Up, the Partnership for Healthier America’s initiative that encourages all Americans to drink more water.

On Tuesday the first lady and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will make an announcement in the White House on school wellness and the progress being made in school health environments across the country.

Following that event, the first lady will travel to Miami to visit a local parks and recreation center to make a major announcement about healthy out-of-school time and to do interviews.

On Thursday, the first lady will make an announcement from the White House regarding proposals to help parents and other consumers make healthier choices.

After that, she will travel to Bowie, Md., for an event with a local child care facility. That day she will also be interviewed by Jenna Bush Hager in a segment for the Today Show, which will air on Friday.

The first lady is also “encouraging people of all ages, to show her how they move — through their everyday fitness routine, making better food choices, or by moving their community toward that new norm — on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, etc. using #LetsMove,” the White House said.

The first lady’s activities can be followed through @FLOTUS and @LetsMove on Twitter and @MichelleObama on Instagram.
