Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has named Tina May as chief of staff to Agriculture Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden, promoted his press secretary Courtney Rowe to the position of deputy communications director, and named Cullen Schwarz his new press secretary.
May, who was an aide to Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., has already assumed her duties as chief of staff to Harden.
Schwarz has been the press secretary for Stabenow in her personal office, but will leave this week to assume his duties at USDA.
May was the legislative director for the Office of Congressional Relations at USDA during the early years of the Obama administration. Before that she worked for the Senate Agriculture Committee, when Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, chaired that committee.
She also worked for the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition and the Scoular Company.
May grew up on a farm near Stacyville, Iowa, and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Minnesota and a master of science degree from the City University of London.
