Heitkamp promotes farm bill vote next week

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D. said in a news release today that in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday she urged her colleagues to vote for the farm bill. She also noted that finishing the farm bill was one of the reasons she ran for the Senate.

“Before joining the Senate to represent my fellow North Dakotans, I pledged to work tirelessly to get a long-term farm bill passed,” Heitkamp said.

“And because of the hard work of so many, we are at the one-yard line of finally reaching the goal of passing a five-year, bipartisan farm bill,” she said. “This is a farm bill that will make North Dakotans proud and benefit all regions of the country by encouraging economic growth and improving our country's balance of trade. Not only does it support thousands of jobs in my state, but 16 million jobs around the country, and helps feed people on every corner of the planet.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has scheduled a cloture vote on ending debate on the farm bill conference report at 5:30 p.m. on Monday and a vote on a final passage about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
