Farm Bureau expands into ag events and publications

SAN ANTONIO — The American Farm Bureau Federation is going into the convention and publishing businesses.

Farm Bureau changed the name of its event from an annual meeting to a convention, an indication, officials said, that they want to stress that farmers and ranchers should have a good time at the meeting.

The 2015 Farm Bureau convention will be January 10-14 in San Diego.

In addition, Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman announced in his January 12 speech that the organization had acquired IDEAg — a group of agricultural events and publications “that furthers our mission of enhancing the lives of rural Americans and building strong, prosperous agricultural communities.”

Farm Bureau, he said, now owns several farm shows, including Minnesota FarmFest, DakotaFest, the Northern Illinois Farm Show and the Amarillo, and the Texas Farm and Ranch Show.

Farm Bureau has also purchased Feed and Grain magazine and the Farm Forum publication from Case IH.

The tagline for IDEAg is “For Agriculture, By Agriculture.”
