The National Restaurant Association on Thursday released its 2014 annual industry forecast.
“To keep up with the evolution of consumer palates, restaurant operators across segments added new food and beverage menu options throughout 2013 and will continue to do so in 2014,” the report says.
Among the trends it notes are the continued popularity of locally sourced foods, “nutritious” options including gluten-free, healthful kids’ meals and consumer concern about environmental sustainability.
The forecast also noted that the industry will be affected by immigration reform, financial regulations, menu labeling, implementation of the 2010 health care law, the Renewable Fuel Standard and the farm bill, particularly the dairy title.
