Ethanol critics, defenders plan dueling news conferences

In the lead-up to the Environmental Protection Agency hearing Thursday on its proposal to lower the volumetric requirements for renewable fuels in 2014 under the Renewable Fuel Standard, two groups of ethanol critics and one group defending the standard have scheduled dueling news conferences today.
Edelman, the public relations firm, has organized a telephone news conference for a wide range of critics of the RFS. The news release noted that the groups will explain “their individual policy objectives as they seek to limit the various negative impacts of the Renewable Fuel Standard.”

EPA is planning for a 12-hour hearing on Thursday with a series of panels, according to documents obtained by The Hagstrom Report.
Nearly two dozen representatives of the U.S. biodiesel industry are slated to testify that the proposed lower blending requirements pose “a threat to their businesses and surrounding communities,” the National Biodiesel Board said in a news release today.
