Grassley releases details on subsidies through partnerships, joint ventures

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, on Tuesday released data provided by the Agriculture Department on the amount of subsidies paid to general partnerships and joint ventures in each state.
Grassley said the data showed that general partnerships and joint ventures are receiving more money through extra "active personal management only" participants in the farm program.
He noted that the amount varies dramatically state by state. Of the $172 million paid out in this manner, $52 million went to operations in Mississippi.
Both the House and Senate farm bills tighten up the rules on this practice, but as Grassley noted, "it's still a discussion point."
"The United States has a $17 trillion debt, unsustainable entitlements, and record land prices, yet we’re hearing some members of Congress still don’t want to tighten the law that would do nothing more than prevent a few of the biggest, wealthiest farmers from exploiting taxpayers," he said.
