CBPP: Changing WIC to allow potato purchases would set precedent against science

A campaign by the potato industry and some senators that would change the rules of the Special Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children known as WIC would mark the first time that Congress has intervened in the 40-year-old program to include or exclude a particular food item and set a precedent.

Under current law, WIC standards are determined by nutrition scientists.
