The House on Saturday passed a bill to pay furloughed federal employees including those at the Agriculture Department after the government shutdown ends.
It is unclear how the Senate will handle the matter when it returns today, but the White House has said it supports the bill.
The bill to provide for the compensation of furloughed federal employtees passed by a margin of 407 to zero, with 24 members not voting.
"Federal workers keep the nation safe and secure and provide vital services that support the economic security of American families," a statement from the White House read. "The administration appreciates that the Congress is acting promptly to move this bipartisan legislation and looks forward to the bill's swift passage."
White House spokesman Jay Carney also noted Friday that Congress has provided federal workers their back pay whenever there has been a shutdown in the past.
