The White House today distributed a blog post by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack describing actions by the White House Rural Council that he chairs.
At Vilsack's urging, President Barack Obama established the council in 2009 to allow Cabinet officers and other officials a forum to coordinate rural policy.
Vilsack said he chaired a meeting of the council today and that the Health and Human Services Department and the Veterans Affairs Department will soon announce new rural initiatives.
