Heritage Action, the conservative group that encouraged House members to vote against the farm bill, favors a one-year extension of the farm bill, The Hill reported today.

In an interview to be aired Sunday on C-SPAN, Heritage Action CEO Michael Needam said the group believes that if the 2008 farm bill is extended he hopes to meet with House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla., to discuss changes to both the farm program and nutrition programs that are contained in the bill.

Both Lucas and House Agriculture Committee ranking member Collin Peterson, D-Minn., have said if there is an extension they favor a two-year extension.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., have said they oppose an extension.

Needham also said he was disappointed that the the House Republicans voted for the farm-program-only farm bill.
