Nestle, Schumacher among James Beard award recipients

The James Beard Foundation announced today that its 2013 leadership award will be presented to the following on October 21:
  • Hal Hamilton, founder and co-director, Sustainable Food Lab, a Vermont and California-based organization.
  • Cynthia Hayes, executive director, Southeastern African-American Farmers Organic Network (SAAFON), a Savannah, Ga.-based group.
  • Marion Nestle, Paulette Goddard Professor, Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health and professor of sociology at New York University:
  • Ricardo Salvador, director, Food and Environment Program, Union of Concerned Scientists, based in Cambridge, Mass.
  • Gus Schumacher, executive vice president of policy, Wholesome Wave, Westport, Conn.

The JBF Leadership Awards recognize achievement in sustainability, food access, and public health issues, and honor specific initiatives as well as bodies of work and lifetime achievement.
