Senate Ag approves Harden and Bonnie nominations

The Senate Agriculture Committee today voted to approve the nominations of Krysta Harden to be Agriculture deputy secretary and Robert Bonnie to be undersecretary for natural resources and environment.

The vote was unanimous by voice and took place off the Senate floor.

Fifteen of the 20 senators on the committee were present for the vote: Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., ranking member Thad Cochran, R-Miss., and Sens. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., John Boozman, R-Ala., Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, Heidi Heitkamp, D-N. D., John Hoeven, R-N.D., Mike Johanns, R-Neb., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and John Thune, R-S.D.

Two large coalitions of farm groups wrote letters to the committee backing Harden’s nomination and a coalition of conservation groups wrote on behalf of Bonnie.

Stabenow said earlier this week she hopes that the Senate votes to approve the nominations before leaving next Friday for a five-week recess.
