Coalition sends letter on farm bill

A coalition of 262 small farm, religious and other progressive groups have issued a statement demanding that Congress “develop and pass a full and fair farm bill this summer without further delay.”
The statement was organized by the Rural Coalition, the Community Food and Justice Coalition, the National Family Farm Coalition and the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition.
The document calls for the inclusion of all nutrition programs without cuts, full funding for streamlined conservation programs, payment limits, sodsaver and conservation compliance provisions on crop insurance and programs to provide economic opportunity for minority and women farmers, farm and food workers and Indian tribes.
The statement also says that farm bills should continue to be updated every five years.
