Stabenow announces more Smithfield witnesses

Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., has announced additional witnesses for the Wednesday committee hearing on the proposed sale of Smithfield Foods Inc. to a Chinese company.

The hearing will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Room 562, Dirksen Senate Office Building.

In addition to Smithfield President and CEO Larry Pope, the witnesses will include:

  • Matthew J. Slaughter, associate dean, management professor and faculty director, the Center for Global Business and Government, and Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College.
  • Usha Haley, professor and director, Robbins Center for Global Business and Strategy, West Virginia University.
  • Daniel Slane, commissioner, U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
