Oxfam America, the international relief and development organization, has hired Matt Herrick, a civil servant communications official at the Agriculture Department, as director of media and public relations.

At USDA since 2007, Herrick has handled issues of trade, food security, economics, disasters, and executive operations and served as one of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s press representatives.

Before that, Herrick was a journalist and also worked for the international development firm Chemonics International in Afghanistan, Peru, Uganda and the Philippines.

Herrick has a bachelor of arts degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and a master of arts degree from Syracuse University.
