House passes CR to fund government through September 30

The House of Representatives today passed a continuing resolution that would fund government agencies including the Agriculture Department from March 27, when the current CR expires, through September 30.
The vote was 267 to 151 votes, with 137 Democrats and 14 Republicans voting against it.
The bill would avert a government shutdown, but it would not provide any additional funds to avoid the negative impact of the sequester cuts except for the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments.
Democrats have complained that the House bill benefits the military but does not improve the situation for domestic programs, and Senate Democrats have said that they will write a broader bill.
But passage of the House bill so long before the current CR expires on March 27 makes it likely that Congress will pass legislation funding the government for the rest of the year before beginning a scheduled recess on March 22 for the Easter and Passover holidays.
