Vilsack details sequestration plan to USDA employees

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack sent Agriculture Department employees a memo today detailing how sequestration will be handled if it goes into effect on March 1.
The Hagstrom Report obtained a copy of the memo.
Vilsack told the employees that USDA management is closely examining contracts, grants, travel and other ways to cut expenditures, but said that due to the “rigid nature of the cuts imposed by Congress,” the agency may have to consider placing employees on temporary furloughs.
But he added that if furloughs are imposed, employees will be provided at least 30 days’ notice, and that those who are “contractually entitled” to more than 30 days notice will receive the appropriate amount of notice.
