House Agriculture Committee ranking member Collin Peterson, D-Minn., met with farmers and conservationists in California last week, according to news reports.
Peterson and Rep. Jim Costa, D-Calif., met with dairy farmers, many of whom are facing bankruptcy. Both the House and Senate versions of the farm bill contain a dairy stabilization program that Peterson wrote.
Peterson and Rep. John Garamendi, D-Calif., who will formally join the House Agriculture Committee in January, met with Ducks Unlimited to discuss conservation in the farm bill. According to a report in The Business Journal, a Central San Joaquin Valley publication, Peterson told the dairy farmers that the debate over food stamps is not holding up the farm bill, but that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., is.
