Food stamp lobbying intensifies

More than 70 groups have lobbied Congress on the food stamp program this year, according to Open Secrets, the division of the Center for Responsive Politics that tracks money in politics.

The group reported this week that the lobbying varied from maintenance of food stamps, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, to opposition to proposals to restrict beneficiaries' purchases of sweetened beverages and other foods.
