The Agriculture Department has provided school food service directors with detailed guidance on how they may go about purchasing locally produced foods for school programs, the School Nutrition Association noted in a mailing to members today.
The October 9 guidance memo says that schools may decide how to define “local,” and that the schools do not have to use a definition of local that has been developed by another governmental entity.
