Irish honor Woteki for her work, heritage

Irish Ambassador H.E. Michael Collins presents a Certificate of Irish Heritage to Agriculture Undersecretary for Research, Education and Economics Catherine Woteki, who is also USDA’s chief scientist. Woteki received the honor for her dedication to food safety and nutritional research during a reception at the ambassador’s residence on September 21. Collins noted that Woteki’s maiden name is O’Connor, and that her great-great grandfather emigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania during the famine. “It must be something in her genes that led Cathie to the world of nutrition research, given the experience of her ancestors,” he said.
