Forty-four groups including the National Association of Counties today wrote congressional farm leaders urging passage of a new farm bill with a strong rural development title.
In their letter, the groups urged the House leadership to bring the bill to a floor vote in early September, but said that if the House does not pass the bill in September the House and the Senate should take the Senate-passed bill and the House Agriculture Committee-passed bill to conference.
The groups also asked that a minimum $115 million mandatory funding level be set and includes detailed positions on policy changes.
