GAO to Congress: reconsider direct payments

Although both the Senate and the House are expected to end the direct payment program in the next farm bill, the Government Accountability Office has only recently released a report saying that Congress should reconsider the direct payments.
“Direct payments generally do not align with the principles significant to integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency in farm bill programs that GAO identified in an April 2012 report,” the GAO said.
